Armed police forest contingent upgrades trans-regional fire-fighting capability

Number of visits: Date:2011年3月3日 15:16

Abstract:

At 9:00 am on August 27, a forest at Xintian Town of Wanzhou District, some 300 km away from the urban area of Chognqing Municipality, caught fire. Upon receiving the order, 108 officers and men of the Armed Police Sichuan Forest Contingent stationed in the area trans-regionally raced to the burning area immediately. After nearly two hour's hard efforts, the dangerous situation was removed. According to sources, these 108 officers and men went to Chongqing in mid-July this year to participate in fire prevention and fighting there. This is the 2nd time for the armed police forest troops to be transferred from faraway place to a forest-fire-prone region to help forest fire prevention and fighting. In January this year, in line with the arrangements made by the State Forestry Administration, the officers and men of the forest troops of the Inner Mongolia Contingent and Heilongjiang Contingent were dispatched to support the fire prevention and fighting action in Jiangxi and Hunan Provinces and they successfully accomplished their tasks. That was the first time for the armed police forest troops to be transferred from faraway place to a forest-fire-prone region. According to the leaders of the Armed Police Forest Command, in view of the fact that the Armed Police forest troops are unevenly distributed throughout the country, the command has gradually worked out a fire prevention and fighting mode for its troops, namely, "basing themselves on their stationed areas while having the whole country in mind". This mode is actually a kind of pioneering exploration for upgrading mobile capability of forest troops and for economizing military strength. By Lin Yuhong and Wu Chao
